Art: Collage and Found Poetry

Collage is one of my favorite mediums. I began working with it in my teens when I had pen pals around the world and we would create our own little collage art pages in friendship books that we passed from person to person. I’ve continued with it all my life and I regularly make collages today. These are mixed media collages made up of varied combinations of images cut from magazines, decorative paper, washi tape, stickers, vintage books, textiles, and more. I also engage with existing text through found poetry and altered book art.

Substack Blackout Poetry Global Exchange

In Summer 2024, I collaborated with Australian Substack newsletter writer Monique Mulligan on a Blackout Poetry Exchange in which we invited anyone to join, organized who everyone would send their poetry to, and laid out some guidelines. Approximately 45 people joined in from North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. I decided to send a piece of blackout poetry to each participant, using a National Geographic as my base for the pages.

Found Art Collage Books

I save junk mail in the form of pamphlets and brochures, add collage and incorporate found poetry from magazines.
