Holistic Creativity Guidance Sessions

My heart’s work and expertise is in supporting artists/makers/creatives in their journeys to experience holistic wellness – creative, emotional, financial, physical, relational.

In these hour-long sessions, I work 1:1 with you to help you move through whatever creative challenge you find yourself facing, including if you can’t quite articulate the specific issue.

Art, writing, movement … it can all be therapeutic but it’s more complicated than just “art heals me.” All aspects of our wellness intersect with our creativity. Symptoms of our health as well as external systemic/practical factors can impact creative process, productivity, medium, identity and business. I believe that this is neither good nor bad; it’s just helpful if we understand the impact.

In these sessions:

We may do any or all of the following:

  • Identify your creative strengths, celebrate them, and find ways to utilize them to move through challenges
  • Converse to find clarity around what holistic success really looks like for you and then co-create a plan for moving towards that success
  • Increase awareness around areas where you have challenges and find ways to work with those challenges instead of allowing them to frustrate or block you creatively
  • Learn to play again as an artist/writers/maker/creative and get joy out of the process

People seek this guidance for:

  • Breaking through creative blocks
  • Celebrating, honoring and making space for the creative self
  • Deepening understanding of how emotional, psychological and/or physical health symptoms are impacting creativity and finding ways to work with the challenges instead of against them
  • Returning to or starting creative activities after a fallow period
  • Getting joy out of creativity again
  • Coming into alignment with values and goals
  • Gaining insight into what success personally means in areas including: art-making, money, relationships
  • Finding a realistic balance of the different aspects of life without leaving out creativity
  • Working through a specific creative problem in a collaborative way
  • Practical assistance with a difficult aspect of being a working artist

Sessions may include:

  • Conversation similar to that of relational counseling psychology. (Important: I am not a licensed therapist. I have a Masters in Psychology but this is not therapy. It is a therapeutic-informed approach to guiding and supporting you.)
  • Creativity exercises and techniques designed not only to help you gain insight and growth in your creative process but also to use creativity to make the changes that you wish to see. For example, I have expertise specifically in crochet-as-therapy and have designed a selection of 100 unique crochet exercises to assist people with mindfulness practice, the process of letting go, building relationships, practicing self-care and more.
  • Incorporation of music, art, quotations and other inspirational materials for fostering curiosity, inviting play, illustrating ideas, etc.
  • Incorporation of grounding, breathing and relaxation techniques for integrating what is uncovered in a session
